Venetian Dog by Dame Elizabeth Blackadder

A charming dog stands at the steps of a Venetian doorway, an expressive and engaging depiction of everyday life painted by Dame Elizabeth Blackadder. Dame Elizabeth Blackadder RSA (1931-2021) is one of Scotland's most significant twentieth-century artists. In 1954 she used her scholarship funds travelling through Yugoslavia, Greece and Italy, where she researched classical and Byzantine art, painting largely in oil and watercolours but was also a skilled printmaker.
