Susan Ryder is a British painter who held her first exhibit at the Royal Academy at eighteen years old. Her father inspired her to become an artist at the age of thirteen, where she borrowed his oil paints and was influenced by his love of the impressionists. She studied at the Byam Shaw School of Painting in London from 1960 – 1964 and was elected a member of the New English Art Club and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. It was during her studies that she took inspiration from the great masters, Johannes Vermeer and Jean-Édouard Vuillard. Traces of the post-impressionist works can be seen in her portraits, interior settings, gardens and landscapes. From 2002 and 2008 Susan was Vice President of The RP.
